Wave 1 and Devcon Ticketing

I hope you’ve heard the following by now: Just two days later, on July 17, 2019, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 3 PM CEST / 10 PM JST, the first general DevCon tickets will be released online..

Today we wanted to give everyone a few details about the ticketing process ahead of Wednesday’s launch.

As always, we strive to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to attend Devcon, so ticket purchases are limited to two per order and passes cannot be reserved in bulk. Additionally, we maintained a limit of 20 tickets per organization to allow as many teams as possible to participate in Osaka.

In the past, Waves was a bit hasty, but we’ve made changes to make the process smoother. We are offering scholarships, builders, speakers, sponsors, and student support early so that only those who need to purchase general admission tickets can participate in the public wave. There will also be more waves of ticket sales following this week’s launch.

We’re also really excited to switch to an open source ticketing platform this year. We had to do some work to prepare for the volume of tickets we were selling and the nature of Devcon, but we think it really paid off. Not only is using this free platform with community-developed plugins more in line with our values, but it also allows for some fun customizations, including a BYOB (bring your own badge) option and the ability to choose features such as: I was able to add . For decoration. By opting in to Swag, you can ensure you’re getting the items you love best and reduce waste by preventing overproduction.

Lastly, we wanted to re-share and update some relevant information from last year’s blog on how to make decisions to help create a warm and transparent process.

Ticket distribution and revenue distribution

First: More than two-thirds of Devcon tickets are (still) discounted or free, targeting different groups of builders and students. The remaining tickets will be sold in a series of “waves” at roughly the same per-ticket rate as the previous three Devcon events (a few euros cheaper this year). This covers conference costs and all profits go towards operations. Ethereum Foundation. This allows us to use our financial resources to give back to the local community by funding key developments and providing ecosystem grants. Additionally, scholarships and sponsorships from community leaders allow us to bring participants who otherwise would not be able to attend to Osaka and sell most tickets at a discount.

tide

Waves is a way for anyone to purchase general admission tickets. We are spacing out the timing of our waves so that we can apply the lessons we learn to future waves (e.g. fixing bugs, resolving uptime issues).

Coming soon!

Stay tuned as soon as this week’s wave is completed for details on the next ticket release, first news on speakers, and when the final period for talk submissions will occur.

Lastly, we are always open to your ideas and feedback to improve this process.

Stay tuned for future Devcon updates by downloading the Devcon Unicorn Deva (@EFDevcon) or keep posting here on the Ethereum Foundation blog.
