in education, tokens
Memecoin (MEME) is a digital currency created as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. MEMEs, defined by their creators as having no practical function, utility or intrinsic value, are not intended to provide monetary returns, profits, dividends or any form of monetary benefit.
It’s important to note that MEME was created purely for entertainment and lacks a roadmap and no promises or expectations of developing an ecosystem around it. MEME features a total supply pegged at 69 billion tokens, which is divided into seven major categories (see below), each with a distinct release schedule.
Meme Coin (MEME)
Memecoin (MEME) has entered the cryptocurrency market in a big way with the launch of Binance Launchpool, marking a notable collaboration with 9GAG’s Web3 venture studio Memeland. Binance introduced MEME to its proprietary Launchpool platform, allowing users to participate in 30-day staking periods across multiple pools.
Starting October 28, 2023, Binance users have the opportunity to earn MEME tokens by staking Binance Coin (BNB), TrueUSD (TUSD), and First Digital USD (FDUSD). The launch established three separate staking pools for BNB, TUSD, and FDUSD, providing a systematic and accessible way for users to earn new tokens through their existing cryptocurrency holdings.
In a separate development, on January 4, 2024, Binance Labs, the venture capitalist and incubator arm of the exchange, announced an investment in Memecoin (MEME). While the exact investment size has not yet been disclosed, this move signals Binance Labs’ confidence in the MEME token and the broader Memeland project focused on fostering a vibrant social economy.
How Memecoin Works
Various mechanisms and contracts are used to manage and distribute MEME tokens. For example, the MEMECOIN Fire Sale is a platform where community pre-sale participants can purchase MEME using ETH, with a refund option available through a specific contract if the deposit fails.
Additionally, MEMECOIN Claim and MEMECOIN MultiClaim are features designed to allow airdrop and presale participants to lock and claim MEME tokens. These charges are facilitated by various contracts, each adhering to its own unlock schedule. MEME’s management also uses multi-signature wallets for added security, so at least two out of three owners must approve operations before execution.
The system is designed to mimic the creator-checker-accreditor flow, ensuring strong governance and secure execution of transactions involving ETH, ERC20, NFTs, or other smart contract functions. Lastly, the project’s smart contracts have been audited by a third-party security company, providing further confidence in the technical infrastructure.
Why is Memecoin unique?
Simply put, it’s not that unique. In a world full of cryptocurrency tokens with little to no real utility or use cases, Memecoin is just another meme token to add to that list.
Memecoin stands out primarily for its self-proclaimed lack of practical utility, intrinsic value, or functionality. Unlike most digital currencies or tokens that aim to provide some form of utility, monetary return, or are part of a broader ecosystem with a strategic roadmap, MEME was explicitly designed without any such intention or promise.
Memecoin Ecosystem
The creators of Memecoin (MEME) emphasize that MEME serves no practical purpose or utility and holds no intrinsic value. It is not designed to generate financial returns such as profits or dividends and is for entertainment purposes only. MEME is distinct in that it does not follow a development roadmap and does not aim to foster a supporting ecosystem.
What is a MEME token?
Memecoin (MEME) is a digital currency created as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. A total of 69 billion MEME tokens will be created, with distribution divided into seven primary pools, each with its own timeline for release.
The fixed supply of MEME tokens is carefully allocated across seven categories, each managed according to an individual schedule for availability. MEME’s distribution strategy design is designed to support the longevity of the project and inject sufficient initial liquidity to maintain engagement and momentum in the early stages.
