Artificial intelligence company xAI has announced the launch of an API that gives developers programmatic access to Grok series-based models. According to x.ai, this development is an important step for xAI as it opens up new possibilities for developers to leverage Grok’s capabilities in their applications.
Details of the Grok model
The public beta release includes a preview of a new Grok model, tentatively named grok-beta, which is currently in final development. The model boasts a context length of 128,000 tokens and supports both function calls and system prompts. xAI plans to release additional details about this model soon. Additionally, a multi-mode version of grok-beta capable of collecting images will be released next week.
Free credits for beta users
To encourage testing and feedback, xAI is offering a free $25 monthly API credit to anyone who participates in the public beta program until the end of the year. Additionally, users who have previously purchased prepaid credit will receive a free monthly credit of that amount. For example, a customer with $50 in prepaid credit will receive a total credit of $75 in November and December.
API Compatibility and Documentation
xAI’s API is designed to be fully compatible with the APIs provided by OpenAI and Anthropic, simplifying the migration process for developers. The transition is easy with just a few changes. base_url
