We introduced Ordinal NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain almost a year ago. At the time, we assumed a regular airdrop would be successful. Today we are here to tell you that it has happened. Not only have we shared BRC-20 token airdrops like $ORDI with the community, but now we can see actual ordinal inscriptions being airdropped to users.
Summary – What is an ordinal number?
Bitcoin developers have been working for nearly a decade to elevate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to the top blockchain. They started with the Counterparty and Rare Pepe NFT collections in 2014, followed by Stacks in 2017.
The inscription process records data on witnesses of Bitcoin transactions, introduced in the SegWit upgrade 2017. These inscriptions for small units of Satoshi are called ordinal numbers.
Alex Miller, CEO of Hiro, developer of layer 2 smart contract platform Stacks, thinks Ordinals is genius. This is essential to the spirit of Bitcoin, combining various elements in ways not anticipated by its original creators.
To create Ordinals, first download Bitcoin Core, sync your node to the blockchain, and then create an Ordinals wallet. Finally, send Satoshi to your wallet.
Surprise Ordinal Airdrop – RSIC MetaProtocol
Just yesterday, the project surprised the Ordinal ecosystem with an airdrop. Although the criteria are not entirely clear yet, it appears that a mysterious ordinal number has been airdropped to active wallets in the Ordinal ecosystem.
The price action on the first day was very healthy. With a low of 0.026 BTC ($1000) and a trading volume of 92 BTC ($3.7 million), it can be concluded that this is one of the largest ordinal airdrops to date.
What is the RSIC metaprotocol?
This is the question on everyone’s mind right now. Around 9000 wallets received this mysterious airdrop, making it the most traded collection on Magic Eden. But no one knows what will actually happen.
The project has written rules into its blockchain that can be found here. What we are seeing is an initial iteration of basically yield farming on BTC for future allocations to the Rune token standard. RSIC Ordinal has many interesting gamifications that are unique, powerful and allow you to earn more future tokens.
They promise future rewards to holders and will all be active during the Bitcoin halving. So we’re going to have an interesting few months ahead. We’ll keep an eye on it and update if anything shocking happens.
More ordinal airdrops
This week we’ve listed another freebie for Ordinal holders. The $RUG token is a Bitcoin-based BRC-20 meme token. And it is being airdropped to several ordinal collection holders.
Early users of SaturnBTC will be eligible to receive various $Rings Airdrops in the future.
This provides more token airdrops to holders, but is a good boost for the Ordinal and Bitcoin L2 ecosystems.
final thoughts
Our prediction is that we will see more ordinal airdrops in the coming weeks. Building on RSIC’s success, other projects will likely follow suit. If you also want to check out the following accounts, keep an eye on Account X.
