Berlin-based Vay uses NVIDIA DRIVE AGX to present a new remote driving solution that advances mobility with real-time remote driving technology and AI capabilities.

Vay, a pioneering company based in Berlin, is taking the automotive industry one step further by offering an innovative alternative to autonomous driving. The company leverages NVIDIA DRIVE AGX technology to provide advanced remote driving solutions, also known as remote driving. This allows users to experience seamless and sustainable mobility.

Innovative teledriving technology

Vay’s user-friendly app allows customers to hail a vehicle driven remotely by a professionally trained teledriver. This approach not only facilitates door-to-door services but also eliminates the need for users to park their vehicles. Teledriver manages parking and vehicle relocation to the next customer, providing a unique and convenient transportation solution.

Based on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX

Vay’s remote driving system is built on the powerful NVIDIA DRIVE AGX centralized computing platform, which includes the NVIDIA DriveOS operating system. This setup ensures safe, AI-enhanced autonomous vehicle operation. The platform’s capabilities allow Vay’s vehicles to process significant amounts of vehicle and camera data in real time, improving situational awareness and operational reliability in a variety of driving conditions.

“By combining Vay’s innovative remote driving capabilities with the advanced AI and computing power of NVIDIA DRIVE AGX, we are setting a new standard for remotely driven vehicles,” said Justin Spratt, Chief Business Officer at Vay. The goal of this collaboration is to bring safe, reliable and accessible unmanned options to today’s market.

Improved video streaming capabilities

Vay’s technology ecosystem includes NVIDIA DRIVE AGX software, optimized for low latency and high throughput. Leveraging NVIDIA’s GPUs, the system can instantly transmit high-definition video feeds, allowing teledrivers to receive critical context information even in complex environments. In emergency situations, the vehicle can come to a safe stop autonomously.

Bogdan Djukic, Vay’s co-founder and vice president of engineering, said it highlights the innovative potential of this technology in urban transportation, expanding the boundaries of mobility for both businesses and communities.

Reshaping urban mobility

Vay’s system allows teledrivers to operate their vehicles remotely from specialized stations equipped with standard driving controls. The station provides an immersive experience, transmitting road sounds and visual data with minimal latency, allowing vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 26 mph.

This technology effectively manages complex driving scenarios with human supervision, enhancing safety while reducing costs and development challenges. Vay, a member of the NVIDIA Inception program, has pioneered the first teledrive vehicle in Europe on public roads without a safety driver.

Since January, Vay has expanded its commercial operations to Las Vegas and secured partnerships with companies such as Bayanat, Ush and Poppy. A recent investment of $35 million from the European Investment Bank will further accelerate the rollout of the technology across Europe.
