Justin Sun’s Heco Bridge and HTX Exchange Target $100 Million+ Cryptocurrency Attack

Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun confirmed that two platforms linked to him, HTX exchange and Heco bridge, were attacked.

“HTX and Heco cross-chain bridges were attacked by hackers. HTX fully compensates for HTX’s hot wallet losses. Deposits and withdrawals will be temporarily suspended. All funds at HTX are safe and the community can rest assured. We are investigating the specific reason for the hacker attack. “We plan to resume service after completing the investigation and determining the cause.”

Blockchain security company Cybers Alerts estimated the loss from the attack to be more than $100 million. Meir Dolev, Chief Technology Officer at Cybers Alerts, said:

According to multiple reports from blockchain security companies, Heco Bridge appears to have suffered a $87 million leak.

On-chain security company CertiK reported It added that $87 million was transferred suspiciously from the Heco bridge and the funds were split between multiple wallets.

Another security company, PeckShield, confirmed It was leaked that this incident is related to a hacked operator who has been active since October of last year.

The stolen assets include $346,994 TUSD stablecoin, over 40,000 LINK from Chainlink (worth over $600,000), $619,000 USDC, and 173,200 UNI tokens from Uniswap (about $931,000).

Other assets involved in the theft include approximately 350 million SHIB tokens worth $2.8 million, 489 Heco-Peg Bitcoins worth $18.8 million, $42 million USDT, and 10,000 ETH worth approximately $19 million. There are more than that.

Cybers Alerts stated that all stolen assets were converted to Ethereum and distributed to various Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs).

The security firm added that HTX’s hot wallet appears to have been compromised by the same attackers, resulting in $12.4 million being moved from the platform.

Meanwhile, the attack represents the third major compromise to a Sun-linked platform in recent times. Earlier this month, CryptoSlate In 2019, Poloniex, a cryptocurrency exchange purchased by a cryptocurrency entrepreneur, reported a $100 million hack.
