Coinbase, the leading US cryptocurrency exchange platform, has suddenly added support for the euro-pegged stablecoin from USDC issuer Circle.
Coinbase Assets revealed in a new thread on social media platform X that the company will begin supporting Euro Coin (EURC) starting January 20th.
“Coinbase will be adding support for EURC on the Ethereum network (ERC-20 token) with trading starting around 3:00 PM ET on June 20, 2024. Please do not send this asset over any other network. Otherwise, you may lose your funds.”
According to Coinbase, EURC will be added to cryptocurrency exchanges using an experimental label, a designation established by cryptocurrency exchanges for riskier and more volatile digital assets.
Coinbase goes on to note that Euro Coin is undergoing a name change that is taking more time than originally anticipated and disrupting service. The stablecoin’s token name will change from EUROC to EURC.
“Renaming Eurocoin (EUROC) to EURC is taking longer than expected. We apologize for this delay. However, your funds are safe and our team is working as quickly as possible to restore full service.”
Circle initially launched Euro Coin on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain on June 30, 2022, but later expanded to other cryptocurrency assets such as Solana (SOL) and Stellar (XLM).
