Jeffrey Zirlin, co-founder of cryptocurrency gaming platform Sky Mavis, said blockchain gaming, along with decentralized finance (DeFi), will benefit the most from the election of President Donald Trump.
In an interview with Cointelegraph at the YGG Play Summit in the Philippines on November 21, Zirlin said the “token design” space could benefit the most from America’s new cryptocurrency-friendly government.
“We want to experiment with all these ways to add utility to the tokens so that we can distribute them through the game and have people who want to use them and spend them.”
Zirlin said it is “very difficult” to do new things in the token design space without running into serious regulatory headwinds due to the outgoing administration in the U.S. being monitored by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), led by Gary Gensler and other top Democrats. .
“The bottom line is that the token design space has now been significantly opened up. I believe this is the most bullish for DeFi and gaming. We believe this is the most important sector with the most real long-term value in the industry.”
Memecoin is your funnel into cryptocurrency gaming
While some have lamented the rise of memecoins as the “most extractive” trend to hit the cryptocurrency industry, Zirlin takes a contrary view.
“The good thing about memecoin is that it gets people who are in (crypto) primarily for speculative reasons and who think very short-term. It attracts those people.”
For Zirlin, it is precisely this kind of propensity for speculation and short-term thinking that makes MimCoiner an ideal candidate for early adopters of new blockchain games.

While memecoins are currently garnering the most attention, Zirlin said the cycle has been fairly “predictable” and he’s betting on legitimate cryptocurrency gaming projects to see mass adoption in the coming months and years.
Trump’s election suits legal projects
Meanwhile, Zirlin shares similar sentiments with many cryptocurrency industry experts, including Consensys CEO Joe Lubin. Joe Lubin said the Trump administration and its widely expected cryptocurrency-friendly policies will benefit more utility-based cryptocurrency projects.
Rubin told Cointelegraph on November 13 that Ethereum and its project ecosystem are more “poised to benefit” than any other protocol from Trump’s election, saying it is more mature than any other major blockchain except Bitcoin. He said he did.
