The original Mimcoin co-founder is calling out Gary Gensler after the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said Bitcoin (BTC) is not a security.
In a new interview with CNBC, SEC Chairman Gensler clarified that BTC is not a security.
“With respect to Bitcoin, my predecessor and I said it is not a security.”
Designating Bitcoin as “unsecured” would place regulation of the major cryptocurrency outside of the SEC’s jurisdiction.
In response to this news, Dogecoin (DOGE) creator Billy Markus took to social media platform X to criticize Gensler for not giving DOGE the same classification.
“He should say that Dogecoin is not a security because it is mostly Bitcoin code and works the same way.”
Gensler has yet to respond to the vocal DOGE co-founder.
This is not the first time Markus has criticized Gensler’s performance as SEC chairman. Last December, Markus responded with harsh words to Gensler’s claims that fraud and regulatory violations were rife in the digital asset industry.
“We never set any real rules, we just waved our hands. You are basically useless in every way.”
As of this writing, DOGE is trading at $0.117, up 11% over the past week.
