Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced a token sale for his decentralized finance (DeFi) platform, World Liberty Financial (WLFI), as the election approaches.
In a new thread on social media platform
“Token sale starts on Tuesday morning, October 15th! This is your opportunity to help shape the future of finance. Visit our exclusive space on Monday, October 14th at 8AM EST to find out more.”
Last August, Trump announced the launch of his own platform, then called “The DeFiant Ones,” as a means of helping people who have been disenfranchised by banks.
At the time, Trump said:
“For too long, ordinary Americans have been oppressed by big banks and the financial elite. Now is the time for us to take a stand together.”
The roadmap states that the project’s mission is to spread US dollar-pegged stablecoins and DeFi concepts around the world.
A few weeks later, Trump confirmed the launch of an accompanying governance token. As a project spokesperson said at the time:
“We plan to sell or distribute a governance token called WLFI in the future. The WLFI token is a pure governance token, providing only the right to propose and vote on issues related to the platform.middle.”
According to previous reports, 63% of all WLFI is sold to the public, 17% is allocated to rewards, and 20% is allocated to team rewards.
