- TRON owner Justin Sun invites Ethereum PoS founder to fight
- The feud began when Vitalik previously called Sun a “dictator”.
- TRX has outpaced ETH with a year-to-date price increase of 78%, reaching 54%.
Tron Blockchain founder Justin Sun is set to take on Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin. This was revealed in a message sent by X on the evening of September 19. In the tweet, Sun declared, “The atmosphere is so intense I want to fight @VitalikButerin at @CryptoFightWeek.”
Vitalik, will he switch from singing to boxing?
This message was responded to by Crypto Fight Week, the organization that organizes Crypto Fight Nights, first in London and then in Singapore. Now, they are set to host a follow-up event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on December 6, 2024. The previous match, held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, featured Hedged Hog and Nic Carter, both moderately well-known internet personalities.
Sun’s challenge echoes a similar exchange between tech luminaries last year, when Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight in Las Vegas. That grudge match never happened.
Clash Of Crypto Titans dates back much further.
This isn’t the first time the Tron founder has criticized Buterin. On Twitter, Buterin was seen siding with InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) developer Juan Benet, accusing Sun of copying his project’s code and images after the latter acquired BitTorrent.
Sun also repeatedly called his TRON product an “Ethereum killer” similar to Solana (SOL). As the celebrity cryptocurrency founders clash, the two related tokens are enjoying some time away from the bears. ETH, the largest proof-of-stake (PoS) network, is up 3.3% in 24 hours, breaking $2,500 for the first time since September 3, 2024.
Meanwhile, Tron is trading in a narrow price channel, hovering around $0.15 last week. Ethereum’s global market cap is nearly 24 times larger than Tron’s, and Ether is $305 billion and $13 billion larger than its altcoin rivals.
On the other side
- Cryptocurrency mogul Justin Sun has publicly praised Vitalik Buterin on several occasions in the past.
- He acknowledged Vitalik’s insight into blockchain technology, confessing that it “far surpasses” his own.
Why this matters
A healthy level of competition in the cryptocurrency space excites investors and raises important blockchain-related topics in the public sphere.
