Former Goldman Sachs executive Raoul Pal said Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrencies are on track to reach 4 billion users, according to well-tracked charts over the past five years.
In a new video update, the Real Vision CEO said that cryptocurrency users will see over 1 billion users by the end of 2025.
Pal’s forecast is based on a model that compares early Internet adoption with the cryptocurrency’s user growth since 2016, when it first surpassed one million users.
“The Internet, the world’s fastest technology adopter, grew at 76% per year before slowing to 43% per year after eight years.
Cryptocurrency has been growing by 137% every year. There are currently 516 million internet users compared to 187 million at the same stage.
We then assumed that cryptocurrencies, like the Internet, would slow their growth. I don’t think that will happen. “I think it will get faster, but by the end of 2025 we will have 1.1 billion users.”
But looking more closely, Pal said that by the start of the new decade, half of the world’s population will have adopted Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
“If we look more closely at the growth of Internet adoption and slow down the rate of growth of cryptocurrencies to the same as the Internet in the future, we will see 4 billion users by 2030. This is equivalent to half of the world’s population.
It will be perfect now, right? So far it’s been pretty perfect and I’ve been showing this chart for 5 years now. But let’s assume that’s not the case. Either way, these numbers are truly shocking.”
