Open Campus announced that it has received a significant grant from the Arbitrum Foundation to support the launch of EDU Chain, the first Layer 3 (L3) blockchain specifically tailored for the education sector. According to Animoca Brands, this groundbreaking initiative is set to revolutionize the educational landscape by integrating blockchain technology into the learning environment.
EDU Chain: A New Paradigm in Education
EDU Chain, an L3 Rollup built on the Arbitrum Orbit Stack, aims to foster a decentralized application (dapp) ecosystem for learners and educators through blockchain-based ownership. This innovative “Learn Own Earn” model records learning outcomes on-chain, scales education finance solutions, and facilitates dapp development by leveraging Open Campus’ extensive network of 60+ education and Web3 partner companies.
Yat Siu, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Animoca Brands, highlighted the innovative potential of this initiative: “This grant is an exciting step forward in Open Campus and EDU Chain’s vision to use blockchain technology to solve current issues and challenges in education. The support and collaboration of the Arbitrum Foundation positions us to redefine the education industry, leveraging the power of decentralization and the Arbitrum ecosystem to improve access to education and opportunities for both learners and educators.”
The role and impact of the Arbitrum Foundation
The Arbitrum Foundation grant will not only fund the launch of EDU Chain, but will also support the Arbitrum Ambassador Program, which will include educational content initiatives and participation in Arbitrum Hackathon competitions, as well as incentivizing developers to build dapps for EDU Chain. “We are excited to see Open Campus launch EDU Chain as L3 on the Arbitrum Orbit Stack,” said Nina Long, Ecosystem Development Director at the Arbitrum Foundation. “EDU Chain represents an exciting step in the Arbitrum ecosystem and demonstrates the Foundation’s commitment to fostering a decentralized education hub within the Arbitrum network.”
EDU Chain transactions settle on Arbitrum’s Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution for Ethereum, offering Ethereum-level security with improved scalability through faster and cheaper transactions. According to data from L2Beats, Arbitrum has the highest Total Value Locked (TVL) of all L2 networks, at approximately $17.15 billion, making it the fifth-largest blockchain protocol.
Collaborative efforts and future prospects
Open Campus plans to leverage the network to drive engagement with EDU Chain, including recording learning outcomes on-chain and developing innovative education finance solutions. The collaboration also includes connecting 96 active Arbitrum Ambassadors and 26 partner universities to the Open Campus Foundation to work on educational content.
