It’s a sad day as one of the most beloved faces in the cryptocurrency community has passed away.
The cryptocurrency world heard a tragic announcement this morning: the Shiba Inu that inspired Dogecoin (DOGE) has passed away.
Kabosu, the Japanese Shiba Inu whose photo inspired countless Internet memes and eventually the DOGE memecoin, took his last nap this morning just before 8 a.m., according to a blog post from his owner.
“Carbo-chan
Today May 24th
7:50 am
I fell asleep…
outside the window
the birds sing
on a beautiful morning
stroked me
sleep
It went smoothly… ”
Cavuso was 18 years old, 126 years old in dog years.
The official Dogecoin X account shared the following post in her memory:
“Today, Kabosu, a friend and inspiration to our community, passed away peacefully in her arms. The impact this dog has had on the world is immeasurable.
She was a being who knew only happiness and infinite love.
Keep her spirit and her family in your hearts, and most importantly, take her with you as your story continues. We are all lucky to have had her touch and shape us.”
Atsuko Sado, the kindergarten teacher who rescued Kabosu in 2008, has long blogged about her life and pets. In 2010, she shared a photo shoot of her seemingly ordinary Kabuso. Little did she know. She was about to change the Internet forever.
The adorable Shiba Inu has inspired more memes than you can measure. Ultimately, the internet joke became a cryptocurrency that far exceeded its founder’s expectations and intentions. The memecoin inspired the owner of an electric car company to believe in cryptocurrency and pushed the digital asset deeper into mainstream consciousness. Now, with the US election approaching, cryptocurrencies have become a prominent political topic. This is partly thanks to a very cute puppy in Japan bringing interest to this field.
Rest in peace, Kabos. The world will never be the same.
