  • SlowMist founder has issued a security warning.
  • The alert warned users that phishing activity is on the rise on new blockchains.
  • Due to these activities, users risk losing their Telegram accounts and cryptocurrency assets.

Blockchain security company SlowMist, through its founder, sounded the alarm on Monday about increasing phishing activity in the TON ecosystem.

The Open Network (TON) ecosystem is a comprehensive blockchain platform that hosts hundreds of decentralized applications (dApps) across DeFi, gaming, NFTs, and memecoins. The utility of the ecosystem has improved since Binance, the world’s largest exchange by trading volume, integrated TON for USDT transfers on June 21.

Phishing activity increases on TON

On June 24, SlowMist founder Yu Xian (Mr. Cos) shared a warning on

According to the founder, “The Telegram ecosystem is too free.” Phishing links or bot forms can be spread through message groups, airdrops and other deceptive methods to hack user assets in TON wallets.

Phishing attacks primarily target anonymous Telegram numbers that users utilize to create accounts that are not linked to their existing calling and SMS enabled SIM cards. You can also change the phone number for an existing account using an anonymous number.

“If these are phished away, it means that the corresponding Telegram account may also be lost, unless the user has enabled an independent password, i.e. Two-Step Verification),” Mr. Cos explained. “The fishing methods are basically the same, so pay attention.”

SlowMist’s warning comes as phishing attacks continue to plague the cryptocurrency industry. Last May, Web3 security company Scam Sniffer tracked $42 million in cryptocurrency assets stolen from approximately 32,000 victims through phishing scams.

As of this month, users have already lost $11 million in aEthMKR and Pendle USDe by signing multiple Permit phishing signatures.
