Following the surge in demand, Solana canceled some orders for Saga phones due to shortages. Demand increased due to the free 30 million BONK tokens that came with the phone.

Solana Labs may have scored a victory with its blockchain and native token already becoming the largest in the industry. However, the company decided to enter the mobile phone business last year by launching the Solana Saga, an Android phone with the Solana app pre-installed and many other features that cryptocurrency enthusiasts need.

Now, it seems that demand for this phone has become unmanageable as Solana Mobile has announced that it will cancel orders for the phone on December 22, 2023.

Is Solana Labs overwhelmed?

It’s worth noting that many of the problems Solana is facing are due to the unprecedented surge in demand for Solana Saga. BONK, a Solana-based token, has surged in value over the past few weeks and traders are scrambling to get their hands on it.

Conveniently, one of the great things about Solana Saga is that each device comes with 30 million Bonk tokens. This is worth just under $700 as of this article. Unsurprisingly, orders for Solana Saga increased and the phone sold out.

According to an official statement from So many orders had to be cancelled.

“With this in mind, unfortunately we are unable to fulfill orders received after inventory runs out,” Solana Mobile said, adding that some orders had been canceled due to suspicious activity or payment risk.

We will inform those affected by the cancellation and issue a refund, and Solana Mobile apologizes for any inconvenience caused. This incident will be disappointing for consumers trying to order a phone, but it shows the interconnectedness of the cryptocurrency industry.

The BONK token that came with Solana Saga was a minor perk, but as its value began to rise, Solana Mobile was flooded with orders from around the world. And as many have pointed out, the Solana Saga costs around $600, but the tokens that come with it are worth more than the phone itself. As the price of BONK rises and falls, there will be mixed debates about which one is more attractive to buyers. And Solana Mobile and other companies will have to consider this kind of situation if they offer free cryptocurrency with their products.

Solana’s phones will likely continue to be popular among the cryptocurrency-loving community in the future. It has many features that will appeal to most cryptocurrency enthusiasts, including the ability to store tokens and, in some cases, the opportunity to get hundreds of dollars worth of cryptocurrency for free.
