Web3 companies like Solana are racing to become the first mainstream cryptocurrency. To achieve this, Solana is betting on the biggest platform for accessing the internet: mobile.
After the mixed performance of Saga, Solana Mobile has unveiled a new device, the Seeker. With 140,000 pre-orders already placed, here’s what we know about the Seeker’s features:
Solana Seeker brings new features
On Wednesday, September 18, Solana Mobile announced its second-generation Web3 phone, the Seeker. Originally announced as Saga Chapter Two, the phone has already received 140,000 pre-orders. Solana Mobile says the phone will be released in 2025 and will feature a number of new features.
“We founded Solana Mobile with the mission to make crypto mobile,” Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko explained. “To achieve this, we needed to make Seeker more accessible and affordable, and integrate the hardware and software more deeply into web3,” he added.
The main feature of Solana Seeker includes a Seed Vault Wallet that is natively integrated into the device. This self-storage Seed Vault helps users have a seamless experience when interacting with their wallet. The phone also features improved hardware at a relatively affordable pre-sale price of $450.
Solana Seeker will also be updating its dApp store with a new rewards tracker and improved dApp search functionality.
Solana Saga, mixed reactions
The original Solana Saga had a mixed reception and slow sales. By December 2023, the Saga had only sold about 2,400 phones, which was only 10% of what Solana Mobile had expected. Meanwhile, tech reviewers were slamming the phone, calling it simply an overpriced Android device.
However, Saga created a surprising and unexpected twist: each Saga phone came bundled with a BONK Mimecoin. After the price of this Mimecoin skyrocketed, it became more valuable than the phone itself. This led to a frenzied buying frenzy, and the Saga sold out.
It’s unclear whether the Seeker pre-orders were driven by its Web3 capabilities or by speculation that it would come with free tokens. Either way, not many people have been talking about Saga’s Web3 capabilities since it sold out.

- Like Saga, Seeker will likely run on the Android operating system and will be embedded in the Google ecosystem, with apps like Gmail, YouTube, and the Google PlayStore pre-installed.
