Blockchain gaming giant Animoca Brands has confirmed that co-founder and chairman Yat Siu was hacked by X for promoting fake tokens. This appears to be the latest in a series of attacks on cryptocurrency X accounts.
“Unfortunately, (Siu’s) social media accounts have been compromised,” Animoca posted to X on December 26. “As claimed in the post, Solana’s token launch was accomplished by hackers.”
In a now-deleted post, Siu’s account shared a link to a token called Animoca Brands (MOCA) that was launched on Solana memecoin launcher Pump.fun. This token is the same name as the company and its affiliate Mocaverse NFT (Non-Fungible Token) collection.

ZachXBT said the fake MOCA tokens were “distributed to the same address” as similar counterfeit tokens shared from a recently hacked cryptocurrency-focused X account.
According to Birdeye, the counterfeit MOCA token hit a peak value of over $36,700 shortly after being shared on Siu’s account, but lost essentially all of its value seconds later, dropping to a market cap of around $7,700.
The token’s value currently hovers around $6,200, with a small amount of trading volume evaporating.

ZachXBT previously explained that the attackers took control of at least 15 X accounts through social engineering and impersonated the X team to send fake copyright infringement notices.
These notifications created a sense of urgency and tricked hacking victims into visiting phishing sites and unknowingly resetting their X account passwords and two-factor authentication (2FA) login information, which were then sent to the attackers.
The first known incident occurred on November 26 involving the It was an incident for an account on the site Kick.
