Just days ahead of the US trial of Sam Bankman-Fried, British broadcaster BBC has prepared an investigative article on the disgraced “crypto king” once the darling of Wall Street and Capitol Hill.
The man who wanted to change cryptocurrency, who is currently arrested and on trial, is probably the biggest villain ever. BBC’s investigative program Panorama will air a documentary titled ‘The Fall of the Crypto King’.
The BBC looks at the rise and fall of Bankman-Fried.
Sam Bankman-Fried, better known as SBF in his heyday as a cryptocurrency king thanks to his cryptocurrency empire encompassing FTX exchange, Alameda Research and numerous subsidiaries, is the subject of a show that will air for 11 months on BBC Panorama.
SBF has been the face of the Washington cryptocurrency scene, trying to leverage his influence with politicians and regulators to build FTX into the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. But in October 2022, the $40 billion cryptocurrency company collapsed, leaving the cryptocurrency genius stuck. More than a million customers lost billions of dollars when the exchange filed for bankruptcy in November.
Panorama’s documentary will focus on what happened, using interviews and investigative reports to piece together the red flags that preceded the FTX collapse. How SBF blindsided almost everyone with its philanthropy, political donations, and messy hair charm forms part of the show.
It’s worth noting that FTX recently sued Bankman-Fried’s parents over allegedly gifting them millions of dollars.
