Considering the fact that Taiwan is preparing for a presidential election on January 13, 2024, important advice has been given to Taiwanese citizens regarding cryptocurrency betting. Authorities in Taiwan have launched a thorough investigation into the use of cryptocurrency platforms to bet on the outcome of the presidential election. The investigation revealed the ethical and legal considerations associated with such actions.

There is significant concern among Taiwanese authorities regarding the use of Bitcoin betting websites. In the heat of excitement surrounding the upcoming election, we are sending this notice to discourage local residents from engaging in gambling activities that may be illegal. This warning was issued as a result of known incidents of Taiwanese individuals utilizing these platforms, which has led to a more comprehensive investigation into this activity.

A total of 17 people have been detained as a direct result of the serious measures taken by Taiwanese authorities against internet gambling on the presidential election. The raid resulted in the seizure of $5,500 worth of USD coins, a cryptocurrency linked to the U.S. dollar, from detainees. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to combating illegal internet gambling, especially when it intersects with the electoral process.

The core of this controversy is the use of Polymarket, a decentralized betting platform. It has been confirmed that Taiwanese residents consistently select this option as their preferred option when betting on the presidential election. Without a central authority or control mechanism that these platforms possess, regulators face unique challenges due to the decentralized structure of these platforms.

Caution regarding the use of cryptocurrency betting platforms serves as a reminder of the legal limitations and ethical issues associated with this kind of activity. The warning comes as Taiwan’s presidential election begins to draw closer. The growing trend globally to analyze the combination of cryptocurrencies with existing industries such as politics and gaming is reflected in the aggressive stance taken by the Taiwanese government.
